As you all may, or may not know, I work at a running shoe store located in the Marina. It’s nice working there since it’s centrally located on Chestnut Street. The Marina and especially Chestnut street is infamously known for the abundance of boat shoes, bikram yoga and day drinking. But with all that, Chestnut street has some pretty good restaurants and I’m lucky enough to try them all since my work expenses all my weekend lunches! How cool is that?
Well…most recently a french bakery called Marais Bakery has opened up right next to the shop I work at. It’s constantly crowded due to the freshly baked bread and pastries. It’s hard to resist the smell of fresh bread as I jump off the 30 Stockton on my way to work.
&& once I found out they had almond croissants, I just could not resist. What makes their croissant amande unique is its shape causing it to be extra crispy compared to other almond croissants I’ve had in the past. It even has chunks of whole almonds mixed in the paste which adds a nice little crunch.
I find myself constantly coming back to try out all their various pastries, and it definitely doesn’t help that I’ve obtained a little crush on their bearded bread boy…

Cafe Madeleine is a cute little pastry/sandwich shop near Union Square. I ordered an almond croissant and hot chocolate to go. I was surprised, the hot chocolate was fantastic! Their almond croissant was also quite delicious, I love when almond croissants have a ton of almond paste in them. This one had a good amount, but I could have still gone for way more. It’s weird Starbucks had THE best almond croissants, I remember opening the middle of the croissants to lick all the almond paste off when I was little. It’s a shame they don’t make those anymore. Anyhow, I grabbed my snack to go and brought it to Union Square for a nice read and people staring. I love people watching. That was a great morning.

I wish Starbucks would bring their almond croissants back.
