So while I was away from my daily track training in sunny Santa Clarita, I had to make sure I stayed in shape so that I didn’t lose all my fitness during the holidays. Usually, I find it very difficult to train on my own, but there are so many beautiful running locations around the Bay Area that it was very easy for me to stay inspired for my daily training. As you saw in my past posts I have enjoyed running long miles at Lake Merced, and running my 800 meter repeats in Lake Elizabeth. But my favorite run that I went on during my break was at Lake Chabot in the East Bay. It is about a 9 mile loop surrounding the lake where you can go boating, fishing or, like me, running!

I ran about 3 miles into the path and hit the dirt trail which branched away from the lake. I was pretty determined to keep running, but I was a scaredy-cat. I was all alone and I thought that some gigantic animal might attack and no one would be around to save me, so I figured I should turn back and finish my mileage closer to the lake.

Usually I vow to never stop while running, but I just had to take a picture of this beautiful view. I felt like I was in Jurassic Park!

When I first started my run the fog was very thick and I couldn’t see anything beyond the lake but as I got to mile 4, the fog started lifting and the sun was shining through, and the view was so amazing!

So pretty pretty.

I guess over time the wind created an archway with the trees. It was a beautiful sight to see as I was running. When I’m training on my own I try to stay in the zone and concentrate on staying on pace but every once in a while I take the time to notice my surroundings and find great views such as these! I love running here, so if you ever happen to be in the East Bay, make sure to check out Lake Chabot!
